Cold Wallet
A cryptocurrency wallet that is not connected to the internet, such as a hardware device (e.g. Ledger, Trezor) or a paper wallet. Cold wallets are considered the most secure way to store large amounts of cryptocurrency.
Because a cold wallet keeps private keys entirely offline, it is immune to remote hacking, malware, and phishing attacks that target internet-connected devices. Hardware wallets sign transactions internally and only export the signed result, so the private key never touches an online computer. Cold storage is the recommended approach for long-term holdings or significant balances. The trade-off is convenience: accessing funds requires physical access to the device, making cold wallets less suited to frequent everyday spending.
