Payments Guide
Bitcoin Payments
How Bitcoin payments work, why businesses are adopting them, and how LOVBITCOIN is building the infrastructure to make Bitcoin commerce mainstream.
Why Bitcoin payments?
Global & borderless
Send Bitcoin to anyone, anywhere in the world, 24/7 — no bank hours, no international transfer fees, no correspondent banks.
No chargebacks
Bitcoin transactions are irreversible. Merchants are protected from fraudulent chargebacks that cost the traditional payments industry billions every year.
Lightning-fast
The Lightning Network enables near-instant Bitcoin payments — suitable for everything from coffee to luxury goods — with fees of fractions of a penny.
Always on
Bitcoin never closes. Payments can be sent and received at any time — weekends, bank holidays, and across all time zones — without delays.
How a Bitcoin payment works
Sender initiates
The sender opens their Bitcoin wallet, enters the recipient's Bitcoin address and the amount, and broadcasts the transaction to the network.
Network verifies
Thousands of nodes across the Bitcoin network verify the transaction is valid — confirming the sender owns the Bitcoin and hasn't already spent it.
Miners confirm
Miners bundle the transaction into a block and add it to the blockchain. The first confirmation typically takes 10 minutes; six confirmations is considered fully settled.
Recipient receives
The recipient's wallet balance updates. The transaction is permanently recorded on the blockchain and cannot be reversed or altered.
The Lightning Network
The Lightning Network is a second-layer payment protocol built on top of Bitcoin. It enables near-instant, near-zero-fee Bitcoin transactions by opening payment channels between parties off the main blockchain.
Instead of recording every transaction on the blockchain (which takes 10+ minutes and incurs fees), Lightning allows two parties to transact freely within a channel, only settling the final balance on-chain when the channel closes.
Lightning makes Bitcoin practical for everyday commerce — from buying a coffee to paying for a subscription — with fees typically measured in fractions of a penny and settlement times under a second.
Frequently asked questions
How do Bitcoin payments work?
Bitcoin payments are sent directly between digital wallets. The sender broadcasts a transaction to the Bitcoin network, miners verify it and add it to the blockchain, and the recipient's balance updates — typically within 10–60 minutes for full confirmation.
Can businesses accept Bitcoin payments?
Yes. Businesses can accept Bitcoin through payment processors, point-of-sale integrations, or direct wallet transfers. Bitcoin payments are irreversible, global, and available 24/7 with no chargebacks.
What is the Lightning Network?
The Lightning Network is a second-layer protocol on Bitcoin enabling near-instant, near-zero-fee payments by opening off-chain payment channels between parties, settling the final balance on the main Bitcoin blockchain.
Are Bitcoin payments reversible?
No. Bitcoin transactions are irreversible once confirmed on the blockchain. This eliminates chargebacks for merchants but means senders must verify recipient addresses carefully before sending.
What are Bitcoin transaction fees?
On-chain Bitcoin fees vary with network congestion — from a few pence to several pounds during busy periods. Lightning Network fees are typically fractions of a penny, making micro-payments practical.
What is Bitcoin BNPL?
Bitcoin BNPL (Buy Now Pay Later) allows consumers to purchase goods using Bitcoin and spread the cost over time. LOVBITCOIN is developing a Bitcoin BNPL service to bring this concept to mainstream commerce.
