Common questions
Bitcoin FAQ
Straight answers to the questions people ask most about Bitcoin.
What is Bitcoin?
Bitcoin (BTC) is the world's first decentralised digital currency, created in 2009 by Satoshi Nakamoto. It operates without a central bank on a peer-to-peer network, with all transactions recorded on a public blockchain. There will only ever be 21 million Bitcoin.
How many Bitcoins will ever exist?
Exactly 21 million Bitcoin. This hard cap is written into Bitcoin's code and enforced by every node on the network. As of 2026, over 19.7 million have been mined. The last Bitcoin is projected to be mined around 2140.
Is Bitcoin legal in the UK?
Yes. Bitcoin is fully legal in the United Kingdom. The FCA regulates cryptocurrency businesses under anti-money-laundering rules. UK residents can legally buy, sell, hold, and use Bitcoin. Gains may be subject to Capital Gains Tax — consult a qualified tax adviser.
How do I buy Bitcoin safely?
Use a regulated, FCA-registered exchange. Complete identity verification (KYC), enable two-factor authentication, and use a strong unique password. For long-term storage, transfer your Bitcoin to a hardware wallet — never leave large amounts on an exchange.
What is a Bitcoin halving?
A halving is an event approximately every four years (every 210,000 blocks) where the Bitcoin block reward is cut in half. This reduces the rate of new supply. Four halvings have occurred: 2012, 2016, 2020, and 2024. The next is expected around 2028.
What is the Lightning Network?
The Lightning Network is a second-layer payment protocol built on Bitcoin that enables near-instant, near-zero-fee transactions by opening off-chain payment channels. It makes Bitcoin practical for everyday purchases — from coffee to luxury goods.
Can I use Bitcoin to buy things on LOVBITCOIN?
Yes. LOVBITCOIN is building a full Bitcoin commerce ecosystem — marketplace, payments, exchange, and auctions — all powered by Bitcoin. You can browse luxury goods, bid at auction, and pay with BTC directly.
Is Bitcoin the same as crypto?
Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency, but not all cryptocurrencies are Bitcoin. Bitcoin (BTC) was the first and remains the largest by market capitalisation. Other cryptocurrencies — called altcoins — include Ethereum, Solana, and XRP. Bitcoin is unique in its fixed supply, decentralisation, and 15+ year track record.
