Gas Fee
A fee paid to compensate for the computing energy required to process and validate transactions on the Ethereum network. Not applicable to Bitcoin, which uses transaction fees instead.
On Ethereum, every operation — from a simple transfer to executing a complex smart contract — consumes computational resources measured in "gas". Users pay gas fees to compensate validators for this work, and fees rise during periods of high demand. Bitcoin does not use gas; instead it charges straightforward transaction fees based on data size and network congestion. Understanding fees is essential for timing transactions cost-effectively on any network.
